In most cases when you rent a room the place will be furnished with at least the basics. That is a bed, a wardrobe and maybe a cupboard or chest of drawers. Furthermore the kitchen is likely to be fairly equipped if the rest of the flatmates have been living there for a while.
Your room won’t necessary have bedding, sheets, bedside table, lamps etc so you might have to get that as well as towels, maybe hangers or anything else you think that is missing. To make this quest a little easier we’ve listed the best places to go for cheap houseware.
IKEA – ofc, this one is a given! IKEA have loads of stuff for cheap. Here you can find everything you need to get set up. You can either visit one of their stores on the outskirts of central London or you can order our stuff online.
Poundstretcher – may not have as many options as IKEA but they do a great job with providing you with the basics. This place is great for grabbing a cheap duvet or a bedside lamp.
Asda – is not only a grocery store, they do loads of little things that can help make your room feel more like home. Get a new wall mirror, some nice prints or pillows for your room for only a few quid here.
Tesco – similarly to Asda, Tesco does way more than just food and have an excessive range of housewares ideal for getting you set up in your new home. Tesco has a few huge stores in and around London but they also let you click and collect to make sure whatever you want is in store when you get there as well as home deliveries.
Argos – is great if you want to tackle some DIY to give your room a more personal touch. They also do decent chest of drawers and they do same day deliveries which is great if you need something asap.
Wilko – is another favourite for everything you can possibly need. They stock anything from shampoo to candles to paint to candy (we even got our Christmas tree there :O ) If you need something related to your home and you don’t know where to go to find it, Wilko is the answer.
Now go get settled in!
